Finder froze, won't relaunch without restarting

Hi,

We are running OSX Mountain Lion (due to compatibility issues with a data analysis pipeline) and sometimes the Finder freezes and won't relaunch. Previously I've restarted the computer and resolved the issue. However, we are currently running intensive analyses that will take several months to complete, and a restart will set up back quite some time. My question is - is it possible to relaunch Finder without restarting the computer? I've tried command-alt-escape and relaunch, to no avail. Clicking on the icon in the doc also does not work. I've googled this issue and unable to find a solution other than restarting...

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Hi, good advice from Carolyn. 🙂

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Click on the top line we want, Shift plus click on the bottom line we want, CMD+c to copy, then paste the text in a reply with CMD+v

A few dozen lines should be about right, hundreds or thousands won't likely be readable.

What all 3rd party extentions are you running?
